Feb 24, 2008 - Colt Update

So I got back home today. Got home with an hour worth of light, so I
went right to the horses.

Lilly was actually stand-offish to me at first. She kept escorting
her colt away from me. So I got a biscuit and the curry comb and she
came right to me. For some reason, she LOVES to be brushed right now.
I'm talkin' "lean into every single brush stroke" love!

Since I haven't gotten to touch the colt for 3 days, he was very
unwilling to let me touch him. So I did what I figured was best, and
spent an hour brushing Lilly, touching the colt every time he would
come within arms length.

Kim, you were very right when you said this guy looks full of piss and
vinegar. Every time I'd touch him, he would spin around and try to
kick me. I kept at it though and made sure he never connected with
me. He kicked poor Lilly on the leg once (she didn't even jump).
Every time he would try to get some milk, I would reach under Lilly,
and rub him on his neck. He would immediately spin, and kick at me.
This little guy is going to have some ATTITUDE!!!

I am going to end up selling this little guy, and wondered what age is
the best? Do you sell a colt like this right when they are weaned, or
do you wait for 1 year? Since I'm very green at all this stuff, I was
curious.

Also, Bev, we need to talk. Your studs are gorgeous. I'm not sure
when Lilly will be ready to breed again (cuz like I said ... I'm new
at this), but I'd love to consider your studs. I was even wondering
about crossing Lilly with a Friesian. Has anyone of you done this?
I've always wanted a friesian, but know that I will probably never
have the kind of money it would take to get one of them.
