Story

After I lost Lily, Pam was my only horse for a few months.  Then Kim Wright, a friend who runs a rescue, asked if there were any horses at her rescue that I might like.  Right away I answered that I would love to see Rachael.

Rachael was surrendered to Kim from an owner that couldn't afford to care for her.  I have the utmost respect for this owner, because he surrendered her while she was in wonderful shape.  She was used as a carriage horse previously in her life, and Kim was told that she was broke to ride and to hitch.  Rachael spent a year with Kim, and times for the rescue got a little rough.

I went over and pulled Rachael out of the pasture.  She was completely gentle, and I fell in love with her right away.  She was a little thin, and was thought to be bred by a Belgian stallion on the premises.  I took her home and right away I knew she was special.  I will always love and thank Kim Wright for allowing me to have such a wonderful horse.

Rachael is the kind of horse that you can pull up out of the pasture after months of not being used, and she is instantly ready to go.  She had decent training already, and I worked her with Pam to form the dream team.  These two together are amazing!  I talked more about this on Pam's page.  These two are a teamster's delight.

Rachael has done weddings, birthday wagon rides, parades, field work, tractor pulls, and more.  She is my go-to horse for anything I need done.  She's amazing and I love having her.

The day I have to retire her will be a sad one, however, she'll still stay right here with me.  I love this horse too much to let go.

Rachael passed on April 30, 2018.  She became a hard keeper as she aged.  Despite SR feeds, constant hay, and all we could do, she took a turn for the worse.  Vets could find no reason why she was losing weight.  Eventually she let me know it was time.  I was there with her petting her and letting her know I'd see her on the other side as our amazing VET helped to ease her pain.  This loss left a hole in my heart.
